I am going to start doing Thrifty Thursdays. I'll share a quick tip on how to save money. I'll also post a Mr. Linky for everyone to share!
I wanted to post about: Thrift Stores
I've been going to thrift stores as long as I could remember. Through the years they have fed my shopping addiction from name brand purses to that funky handbag I picked up for a dollar. The best thing about thrift stores isn't the prices (though it's a super bonus), it's the thrill of finding something new everyday.
Some great finds I have acquired at thrift stores are Guess and Coach purses for around $5.00. I found a Kate Spade in Vegas Goodwill for $1.99 and a Gucci Wallet for 2 bucks at another Goodwill. I recently went on a cruise and was able to find MANY evening gowns for only $1.00! I recently became aware that I am a closet "boot" fanatic. I have picked up so many pairs of boots for $1.00 I finally had to give some away.
Some other finds besides apparel I always look for: Bedding (especially for the kids), holiday decor, picture frames (these are exremely cheap compared to reg. retail stores), kids games (make sure you check for all the pieces prior to purchase), dvds and books. I can find kids books for $.69-.99 cents, combined with half off days this is a steal! I have also found home decor and furniture on a penny pinchers budget. I love to pick up cook books and last years "top sellers" for only a dollar or two.
Kids clothes are another exremely great bargain. If you have kids like mine that grow like weeds, play hard and stain things easily then I highly reccommend checking out this section. Jeans and jackets especially are a great bargain. Another great tip is to shop "off" season. Buy the jackets and jeans in the summer when people aren't looking for them. I picked up a couple "bomber" jackets for my daughter this summer for only a couple bucks and 2 of them were new with tags!!
Check out your local thrift store for the days they have specials. If you live here in AZ, Goodwill has 50% off everything every other Saturday, a color tag every day that is 50% off and dollar days on Thursdays (my favorite). Savers has .99 cent color tags on Mondays, 50% off most days during the week and 50% off all items on holidays.
- Get there early on sales days, people start lining up for deals up to 20 minutes before the store opens.
- Grab a cart, these go fast and all those bargains can get heavy.
- Looking for something impaticular, go straight to that section first.
- Look closely, there may be something hiding between those pairs of jeans or underneath all those bags.
- Pay attention to detail, make sure the zipper works, there are no holes, the electric plug works, etc.
Remember to recycle your unwanted items by donating them. Often they will give you a coupon for a future purchase and of course, it is tax deductible.
Please post your tip on something you would like to share about saving money.

Wow, I'm impressed. I'm so brand clueless that I wouldn't know what to look for. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a brand savvy friend that buys jeans (and other stuff) at thrift stores for $2 or $3 and resells them on ebay for $60+.
