E-billing, it's quick and easy, just what everyone wants these days! However, how often do you actually look over a bill, at everything being charged. Whether it is a credit card bill or a utility bill, billing issues happen. We can't rely on technology and others to assure that what we are needing to pay is correct.
This week I discovered I was still being charged by the City I live in for a dumpster I rented when we cleaned out our house. This dumpster was turned in December but yet I was still getting charged $30.00 a month for it! I didn't think about why my Water bill (our waste management and water are run on one bill by the city) was higher until I looked at it this week. I went in and they had forgot to close out my account. They ended up crediting my account for around $150.00! That's over 2 months of bills I don't have to pay, basically I prepaid by getting overcharged.
If I hadn't of noticed, I would still be getting charged.
Make sure you are getting billed the correct amount on every bill you pay!
Good catch. I have a few accounts set up for autobill and they email me when they're about to debit my account. Some companies actually tell you the amount that's being charged - I like this because if it's what I was expecting then I don't need to go check it. But there's at least one company that says I owe nothing (because it's autopay) and then I always go and check what it is they're charging me.
