Today was the Grand Opening of the new Fry's at Tatum and Shea in Phoenix/Paradise Valley. A few bloggers from the Valley had the pleasure of doing a pre-grand opening event in conjunction with celebrating 50 years of Fry's. It was such an awesome experience. We met the faces behind the store and the masterminds behind the Signature Marketplace.
Jon Flora, division president took the time to talk with the bloggers, explaining how he was able to bring his vision to life. He was extremely passionate when he spoke about this store, every detail he could present. Here are a few details I will highlight for you:
The store was torn down, and built again in 4 months. The front wall and the back wall are the only things original to the store.
This store cost 18 million dollars to renovate
35,000 sq. ft store
Open 24 hours a day
It isn't a store, it's an experience! I added that one, but you will see why when you read the rest of this blog!
Bonus features of the store:
Starbucks
Organic Juice
Bar
Wine and Cheese Bar
Sushi Bar Wine Cellar
Cupcake Bar Chocolate Bar
Tortilleria
Seafood and Meat Counter
Home Goods
Patio Furniture
Ethel M Chocolate Counter
Fred Meyer Fine Jewelery
Library (book market)
Den
Kosher Experience
Cooking School
Dry Beef Area Signature Bistro
GF and Organic Section
Floral Market
Drive Thru Pharmacy
Fry's has you covered outside the store, literally!
- Covered Parking
- Valet Parking ~ $5.00 Fee
- Curbside Pickup ~ Bring your car up and the staff will help load your groceries
- Emergency Systems ~ There are security units that you can press to alert an alarm and the members in the store of an unsafe situation outside.
Let's talk coupons and saving money!
The prices at this store are the same as the prices of all stores in the valley!
The Manufacturer coupons under $1.00 are valued at $1.00 at all Fry's.
All Fry's stores are taking every competitor coupon, this includes: Whole Foods, Albertsons, Fresh and Easy, Bashas, Safeway and Target. Yes, the President of the Division of Fry's said Target coupons are accepted! If they make the product and the coupon is out there, they will take it! He also said this promotion will continue to run, currently with no end in sight!
Exciting stuff happening in the digital world of coupons and Fry's. Now, they are working out some kinks so don't get overly excited as it's not out yet but expect some coupon apps at least for Iphone by the end of the year!
This store has one of my favorite bargain shopping tools:

Speaking of saving money, make sure you check out the grand opening specials I have posted here: http://www.supersavingsense.com/2010/09/frys-tatum-and-shea-grand-opening-wad.html

Justin, rocks the beer section, finding the only Gluten Free beer just for my friend Amy!

Yes, that is a cake!
Last but not least, we have to give a great big shout out to our host of the day, Matt!
Thank you Matt, you did such a great job at representing Fry's and showing us a great time!
Cheers!

That is the cooking school, can I have this as my kitchen?!

I really wanted to show my readers everything this store has to offer, please check out my Whrrl which has everything you will see in the store.
My overall impression of this store was, wow. I have never shopped at a grocery store that I wanted to spend all day at. Really, I could come in with a friend for a cup of coffee, then shop all day and end with a glass of wine, all before leaving the store. I am so excited that we were able to attend this event and speak to the staff. I've shopped at Fry's since I had my first job and could grocery shop on my own and there are two reasons I have been a loyal customer all these years. Always low prices and the friendly staff. Meeting with the people who represent Fry's was great. They were friendly and we felt that they actually listened to our questions, concerns and ideas.
Please check out my friend Amy's post about her Gluten Free and Allergy concern quest with Fry's http://www.dealusional.com/2010/09/frys-grand-opening-celebration.html
I only have one complaint, no child care center. I think it would really have made it a platinum experience for moms.
A few fun pictures from our experience:
Me and the gals, in our fancy shmancy hairnets.

The breakroom of this Fry's has video games and a pool table. Can I work here?

Brenda from www.peekatmypaper.blogspot.com on the red carpet!

Amy from Dealusional.com shows off the very fancy fruits! That is a Jack Fruit by the way.

These were gourmet brownies from the Chocolate Bar. OHHH MYYY they were heavenly!

I like that they have products that accomodate special diets, such as gluten free and peanut free items. It can be difficult to find such items at other stores.
