Tuesday Tip: Learn to DIY

It seems like a lot of things have been malfunctioning in our home. Do you ever go through that? Where something breaks down, falls apart or just stops working? Of course, everyone does! I think a lot of times we think we have to call in the experts or bring it in somewhere. Or people just buy a new one thinking it's easier. Even the technically challenged can fix something though with some simple education! This doesn't only apply to fixing something so you can DIY, you can learn how to do or make something so you don't have to pay for it.

There are many free sources for learning how to do something:

First stop: Youtube.com, it's not just for sharing funny videos. Just put in the search box exactly what you are looking for! Example: Your garbage disposal isn't working, just put in "garbage disposal" and see what comes up! What about a fun hobby? A hobby I love to do is cake/cupcakes. I looked up cake decorating and there are so many videos on there. I saved money by not having to attend a class put on by a craft store and I was able to learn for free in my PJ's ;)

Next up: Lirbary, your free resource for everything. I get lost in my library because it seems like I am always looking for "how-to" books.

Last: Barter till you drop: If you look up what you need to fix and it still seems over your head, why not post on your Facebook page to see if anyone knows of a specialist in your area. Sometimes, your friends may know how to do something (or maybe their husbands) and you can offer to trade services.

Have you learned anything from a free resource that ended up saving you money in the end?
