Donate Movement w/ Goodwill: Over 200 lbs of weight gone!

I started my spring cleaning early this year! Over the past couple weeks I gathered up stuff we hadn't been using and "clutter" that we just didn't need. I tool all this stuff to Goodwill. I estimate I had well over 200 pounds of stuff. Between the over 100 books, television, toys and clothes I feel like a big weight is out of our house! We don't have a big house to begin with so it was nice to have some room spared up by donating our clutter!

I'm proud to donate my clutter to the Donate Movement by Goodwill. My used items will help generate a revenue to allow others to the knowledge and information to obtain a job. Want to be involved? Make a commitment to de-clutter, make a difference in your community and help create a healthier planet. Donate your gently used clothing and household items to Goodwill a few times this year.

The key questions that I ask myself that help me evaluate what to donate:

Do I really need this?
When is the last time I used this?
What do I need this for?
If I get rid of it, will I really miss it?

These mantras have really helped me get rid fo stuff because truthfully, I may be a borderline hoarder (confession). Because I am comitted to have a clutter free house, I will continue to donate to the mission or at least make the effort to do my evaluations of what I need to keep and what I need to donate!

Goodwill AZ Clearance Center (review and finds)

Today I went to the Goodwill Clearance Center at 51st Avenue and Van Buren in Phoenix. This just opened this past weekend and was very busy today. The best way I can describe the store is this is a "hodge podge" store! It has a lot of clothes and a little bit of other random items.

Here is how it works:

Clothes, Shoes and Housewares are weighed by the pound. It starts at $1.39 lb and goes down at 20 pound increments.

Books, movies, music etc start at $.25 each

What I found:

The store is mainly clothes. It is kind of chaotic because it is just large bins of clothes that they constantly rotate with new stock. The benefit to that is that if you go one day, the next day the store will have new stock. The con is you are in a "mob" of people trying to go through items in the bins.

As far as clothes I would say it is mainly women's and men's clothing with some kids clothing. But like I said, it is new stock daily.

As far as quality there was a mixture of items that I think are comparable to what is in their stores. Some items were tagged already so I assume that these items were ones that did not sell in the stores. Other items weren't tagged so they may not have ever made it to a store and are just straight from donations. I did see a lot of name brands such as Lucky, Abercrombie, H&M, White House Black Market and more.

For housewares I saw picture frames, some dishes, some toys and some small appliances. These are also in bins that you can rummage through.

So how did I do?

I got 11 pounds and walked out spending around $15 for 18 items. I got jeans for the kids (Levis brand), shirts including a Perri Ellis dress shirt for my son, items for crafts and 4 pairs of shoes.

What I am most excited about were the shoes! I found Kate Spade shoes (retails $200-$300) & BCB Girls shoes (retails $50-$100). Since these really don't weigh much, I easily paid under a buck per pair of shoes!

I would say that this Clearance center is worth a trip every once in a while but don't get too disappointed if you don't find anything for you.

Recently, my family was put directly inbetween a "rock and a hard place" financially. Instead of being an extremely large ball of stress, I am working on counting my blessings. I am thankful that I was able to purchase many of the kids back to school outfits at Goodwill. I've told you many times how Goodwill is a great place to not only shop but donate your used goods.

I'm working on passing my blessings along by becoming a "Good-Girl" and going through the house to de-clutter all of the items we don't need. I will be donating these goods to Goodwill and I have set a goal of 4 bags of items that we no longer need or use from our family.

I am encouraging my readers to have their own campaign and donate to their local Goodwill. I am especially encouraging my Phoenix Readers to do the same because on July 31st there was a fire at Goodwill of Central Arizona's Main Campus, burning down the Clearance Center and Salvage Operations, co-located at 16th Street and Van Buren.

The buildings that burned down were main transportation hubs and housed donations from the community. More than 1,000 storage containers of donations were destroyed in the fire.

Goodwill has made every effort to ensure retail and workforce operations remain uninterrupted so we can continue to serve our clients, customers and community.

However, they need your help.

Your donations of material goods will ensure that our stores will remain stocked so customers can continue shopping.
