CVS 101 ~ Shop, Earn, Save and Make Money!

New to the CVS coupon game? Here is a tutorial to make that first leap into CVS freeland a little easier! You can be getting paid to shop at CVS!

Here are the basics of shopping at CVS:

Extra Care Card:

CVS has a rewards card called Extracare card and you scan this at checkout with every purchase. The benefit to this card is it keeps track of your spending and gives you what are called "Extra Care Bucks".

You can get an ExtraCare card when you create an online account. If you already have an account, sign in and go to the ExtraCare page, and follow the instructions to Get a Card now. Or visit your local CVS/pharmacy store and get a FREE ExtraCare card on the spot.

Use your card each week and get instant savings on items featured in our weekly store circular ads.

Earn Extra Care Bucks/Rewards:

Rewards are called Extra Bucks that you can earn at any CVS/pharmacy store or online when you use your ExtraCare card. Use these just like a gift certificate and treat them like cash to use on your future purchases.

  • Earn more Extra Bucks on select brands advertised in the weekly ads. Your Extra Bucks will print on your receipt immediately following your qualifying purchase(s).
  • Earn 2% back with every purchase in-store and online at CVS/pharmacy. *
  • Earn $1 Extra Buck for every 2 prescriptions purchased in-store and online at CVS/pharmacy.
  • Every 3 months Extra Bucks will print on your store register receipt, or visit CVS/pharmacy online to print your Extra Bucks.
A few more ways to earn Extra Care Bucks:

Use this bag tag when you bring in your own bag and ever 4th visit you get $1!

Coupon Scanner:

Scan your EC card every time you shop at CVS, this scanner prints out coupons for purcahses and sometimes gives you a surprise freebie.

So that's the basics, now on to the "Free Stuff"

Many times CVS will put out in their ad what you can get for FREE after ECB.

Example:

What this means for you is that you can be earning free items for just shopping at CVS!

It gets better, when you see an item that is advertised for free you can use any MANU or Store coupons on these items to make these deals even better and potentially a money maker!

Example:
Purchase 1 Colgate, use a coupon from Sundays paper for $.75/1.
At time of purchase your total is now $2.24 after coupon
Receive an ECB after purchase for $2.99
You just make $.75 on this deal. Essentially, they paid you to take the toothpaste!

Here are the restrictions:
Many times there is a limit of 1-2 per household, read the fine print.
ECBs are typically only good for 30 days, some stores will accept them with a grace period but go in with the mentality of "use them or lose them".
Don't keep them in the sun, they will discolor.
You are responsible for all taxes that occur before the ECB and Coupon.

A few tips on terminology with CVS ECB's:
ECBs = Extra Care Bucks
CRT = Cash Register Tape (a coupon printed at the cash register)
Scanner Coupon = A coupon printed at the scanner when you scan your EC card
Free after Coupon/ECBs = an item that was either free with a coupon and/or an ECB
MM = Money Maker, an item that you made money on after coupon and ECB
Rolling ECBs= taking an ECB and using on a purchase that will produce another ECB. This helps keep your total out of pocket spent down to a minimum.
